.) Review Ergodyne document Taking Care of Your Knees At Work. It is very important for us to consider what simple practices and methods we can use to help keep our body from suffering un-needed abuse. Our knees are a good example of something most of us take for granted, but unless we consider how we will protect them (especially in our line of work), we stand much greater risk of damage over time.
.) Distribute kneeling pads to all field services staff. Please get in the habit of using these kneeling pads (good for cold, hard, or uneven surfaces), avoid jumping down from elevated surfaces, and avoid using your knee as a ‘prybar’ or ‘hammer’.
.) Decide what measure(s) should be used for our Progressive Disciplinary Plan for Repeated Safety Infractions. (day off work without pay?) It was agreed that one day off without pay should be the third step in our Progressive Disciplinary Plan (as it pertains to Safety). First will be a verbal warning, next will be written warning and retention of Safety Reward (Tim Card).
.) A congratulations to all those who are remembering to complete the safety inspection forms and checklists…thank-you! We have been making great improvements in this area. Among other forms, we are seeing the Aerial Lift Inspection Forms returned… thanks, and would now like to encourage you to add the Fall Rescue Plan to this. It’s great to know that the lift appears to be in good shape, but we still need to know how to get someone down in the event of an emergency (personal injury, lift malfunction, etc.). I think all of us hope this won’t happen to us, but we will also all be very disappointed if something does happen and we are not prepared to deal with it (likely putting one of us at high risk of worse injury).
.) We are now targeting the first week of April for a roll-out of Hindsite Software at our first test site.
