1.) Review of travel time, and western boundary marker locations. A Technician’s travel time is paid in the following
manner (at regular hourly rate) when we engage in a project outside of the
Niagara Region: Western Boundary markers have been established in the form
of seven main ‘crossroads’ locations, from which time/distance will be
calculated using Google Maps. The customer site address will be entered into
Google Maps, and using the distance calculator the closest appropriate
crossroads location will be selected and used for this calculation. Time will
be rounded up to the nearest 1/4 hr. If an employee is asked to use their
personal vehicle to travel outside Niagara, the same calculation will be used
for distance and the employee will be paid using the current CAA rate for
“mileage”.
3.) Review updates to PPE Policy. Revisions noted in red…
1.) Every employee who may
perform tasks which expose them to live equipment in a hazard risk category 0,
1, 2, & 2* as defined by the CSA Z462 Table 5 will be responsible to outfit
themselves with base clothing made of ‘non-melting fibers’ (e.g. 100%
cotton), and wear company supplied safety glasses, hard hat, ear plugs,
balaclava, face shield, coveralls, and gloves as required for each hazard risk
category defined in the attached ‘Appendix A’ (CSA Z462 Standard for
Electrical Safety). NOTE: We do not issue protective
equipment to work above a Hazard Risk Category 2*, and will request this PPE of
our customer in the event that we are asked to perform live tasks exceeding
Category 2*. If the customer does not have the equipment available for our
use, we have one set of HRC#4 (at the shop) that will be used. If sufficient protection is
not available we will refuse the work until sufficient protection is made
available.
4.) Review of Yellow tape & Red tape uses …we have both at shop on the
Safety Shelves. Yellow
tape to be used as Caution (cross only with permission from installer of tape
barrier…permission must be granted every time you cross!). Red tape to be
used as Danger (DO NOT CROSS…find another route).
5.) New staff members… welcome! Please remember that we cannot ‘assume’
that others know our abilities (strengths and weaknesses) and our work
background. Don’t be afraid to tell your foreman/supervisor if you are
uncomfortable with a certain task, or using certain equipment, etc. It never
‘hurts’ to communicate and ask questions, but it can sure ‘hurt’ if you
don’t!
